Pillows, Part 2! Eco-Friendly and Fair Trade Options
1:11 AM
Last week I did a post on pillows and got a suggestion, from Decorative Pillows, to showcase some eco-friendly and fair trade pillow options. They asked and shall receive.
For those of you not familiar with the term "fair trade" here is what it means- "Fair Trade is an organized social movement and market based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries obtain better trading conditions and promote sustainability." (Thank you for that explanation Wikipedia) And I'm pretty sure most of us out there know what eco-friendly means so I will just get on with showing the pillows! Enjoy! : )

These first 2 pillows are by Modernality via Etsy. The pillows are made of felt that is made from recycled plastic bottles!
These next pillows come from a company called Gianna. Gianna offers lots of eco-friendly AND fair trade items but since we are talking pillows; here are some options from Gianna.
Organic Cotton Bubbles Pillow
Organic Cotton Snowflake Neckroll Pillow
The next few pillows come from Humble Creations. They use organic cotton and non-toxic water based inks on their items.

And last but not least, Ten Thousand Villages. We actually have a Ten Thousand Villages (a fair trade retailer) here in Houston. They sell items by artisans from all over the world.
Handmade Tree of Life Pillow
Handmade Hands Around the World Pillow
Handmade Rags to Riches Pillow

There are LOTS of eco-friendly and fair trade houseware options out there; just search the internet! A lot of the companies listed above sell other items too, not just pillows. Check 'em out!

High Fashion Home Tour with Dana Tyson!
11:46 AMDana Tyson from Sunny 99.1 decided to take a glamorous High Fashion Home tour. If you never been to the store, here is your chance to take a behind the scenes look with Houston's best radio personality! I love that lady!
Nate Berkus is such a cute, interior designing genius. There, I said it. And, I really love his show. Today he did a segment on wall design without paint. For those of us who live in apartments or lease condos and can't paint walls, Nate offers his upholstered wall idea. On the show, he actually took a printed tablecloth (but you could use a sheet or other cotton fabric) and "glued" it to the wall with liquid starch. The liquid starch doesn't harm the walls and is easy to remove when you need to. Check out the video and then get starching!
That's the tablecloth on the wall! Looks great and doesn't look difficult to do. Thanks Nate. : )

MetroSofa
1:23 AM
I heard about MetroSofa (created by David Ballinger) sometime in the past week while reading The Houston Chronicle. The article featured their British Flag Throne Chair. Pretty cute, so I decided to see what other things MetroSofa had to offer. Of course I saw more cute things and was then pleasantly surprised to read that "Renewable, Sustainable, Recyclable, Reclaimed" are some of their favorite words. Most of the furniture begins with a gently used wood frame and then the folks at MetroSofa fill it in with whatever they want or they also do custom orders (they can and will print anything on fabric!). Check out some of the items below.
Here is the British Flag Throne Chair that peaked my curiosity.
I love the Yellow Crushed Velvet Louis Chair! So bright and cheery.
LOVE the Black and Stripe Rocking Chair!
How cute is this Black White Pink Polka Dot Sofa?!?
Also, while checking out the website, I found out that MetroSofa isn't just MetroSofa; their sister sites are MetroShed (actually the Mother site), MetroCabin, MetroShip and MetroArtwork.
An example of the MetroShed. It's prefab and whatever you want it to be.
An example of MetroCabin. Another prefab item. Small guest house maybe?
And, MetroShip, is you've ever wanted a houseboat!

Amazing Manhattan Apartment!
4:05 AM
This very colorful, very wonderful home belongs to actor, Anthony Edwards and his wife, cosmetics queen, Jeanine Lobell. Jeanine Lobell was the mastermind behind Stila cosmetics (she sold the company and is now the Creative Director for Kevyn Aucoin Beauty); and you may remember Anthony Edwards as Goose from Top Gun or Dr.Greene from ER. Their home has lots of eye-popping color and wallpapers yet it also has a relaxed, comfy look to it. I love, love it!
Jeanine collaborated with Rafael de Cardenas to decorate the apartment. The sectional sofa (love!) and cocktail table are by Cardenas. The sleigh chairs are by High Style Deco. The curtains are made from a Starkde Gournay. fabric and the framed wallpaper panel is by
Flowers artwork is by Jean-Francois Debongnie. I adore the chairs and the Designers Guild fabric they are upholstered in. The vases on the table are by Robert Kuo.
I had seen the wallpaper and the rug separately, I don't think I would have put them together but they do work! The table, cabinet and mirror all came from Sweden.
This wall color is amazing!! (sorry, I don't know the exact brand and color) A simple 1960's Brazilian credenza, some well placed pictures and great lamps make the space complete.
I can't tell you how happy this Bright Lime (by Benjamin Moore) kitchen makes me!! The kitchen already has great light, thanks to the windows and this color just kicks it up a notch.
Jeanine and Anthony in the breakfast room with one of their daughters. More Bright Lime paint and fun wallpaper!! The huge table is perfect!
Now, green is my favorite color and I have always loved the idea of a design that starts near the baseboard and stops mid-wall so this is a win, win! (wallpaper is by Sum-Design)
Lots of the pieces in the office came from Visiona in Miami. Some of the artwork on the wall is by Anthony's grandfather, Kem Weber (who also designed the lounge chair).
