The trees planted through the Arbor Day Foundation will help produce 8,335,860 pounds of oxygen in the next year.  Thanks to all of our wonderful customers for helping the world breath a little bit easier.

Let me start of by professing my love for the Kindle.  E-readers are definitely the future, and it looks like the future is finally about to descend upon our public school systems.  McGraw-Hill just launched it's first digital only textbook.

There are numerous advantages of the digital only format.  When publishers need to make minor updates, they won't have to print thousands of these heavy text books to schools around the country.  It saves paper, saves gas, and most importantly, saves money.  Each paper book costs roughly $50-80 dollars to our school systems (Let's not talk about the budget shortfalls that most public entities are facing).  Now they can send a quick update so that students will have instant access to the right information.

With the price of e-readers dropping quickly, our kids might be able to get their hands on one sooner than later.  Worst case, parents should buy their kids an e-reader instead of a phone or video game system.

I love my Kindle!

X-Men: First Class is an excellent movie directed by Mathew Vaughn.  But the main reason to see the movie is the amazing wallpaper from the submarine scene.  It's the very same wallpaper our design team used for our Pop Life Dining shoot.  Great minds think alike!

Jennifer from The Little Couple visited High Fashion Home back in January.  She and her husband, Bill, were looking to decorate their new home that is currently being built.  The episode just aired this past Tuesday.  We weren't sure if our store was going to make it on an episode, so it was a cool surprise when HFH popped up on the show.

This week we have agreed to start a battle between two of our most favored dining tables. The Magnolia round and the Santos square dining tables. Both have a beautiful look to them and also add a great presence to a room. The Magnolia dining table has an appealing white wash finish with an elegant base. It's style is versatile which makes it an easy pick for any setting. The Santos dining table has a little bit more character. It tells stories with its reclaimed peroba wood details and smooth ebony finish. These tables are both superb, but which one is better than the other?

In last night's Extreme Makeover Home Edition episode, the Johnson family had their world turned upside down as they moved into their new home in Houston, TX.  High Fashion Home was asked to contribute a lot of fabrics and furniture items for the show.  It was a great that we could participate into such a wonderful production and cause.  Go watch the episode online and congratulations to the Johnson family!

 

 

Via the Contemporist, Centro Abierto de Actividades Ciudadanas in Cordoba, Spain represents an innovative twist to the idea of public spaces.  The prefabricated, circular discs provide an artistic rain protection that will house temporary markets two days a week, along with other activities.

Down the street from High Fashion Home lies REEF, #1 Seafood Restaurant in the US by Bon Appetit magazine.  Chef/Owner Bryan Caswell was recently announced as a contestant on season 3 of The Next Iron Chef.  We had a great experience working on the interior design with Caswell on his highly acclaimed restaurant, Stella Sola.  This celebrity chef is by far Houston's brightest culinary star.  The word on the street is Caswell performed exceptionally well in the competition.

For those of you who haven't heard, Nate Burkus recently appeared on Oprah for his final appearance on her show (boo!). He's heading to New York because he is the next person to have been touched by the "Oprah Factor" and will now get his own show (hooray!). Berkus became a main staple on Winfrey's show after redecorating a small studio apartment into a lavish, multi-functional space.


I'm a huge fan of Nate Burkus, not only because he's a little cutie but, because he has a gift to turn any room into a work of art. If you guys didn't see the show, his tip for small areas is to place large items into the space so that you're not reminded of its size.

She has been immensely generous in helping out High Fashion Home with staff and food for several of our charity events.  Top Chef happens to be one of my favorite shows. I'm always amazed how these chefs can spontaneously conjure up such a diverse set of delectable dishes each and every episode.   Monica Pope is one of Houston's most decorated chefs, so expect great things when season 2 starts on April 7th.
